The Morning After: Post-Halloween With Kids

Pausing after Candy, Costumes and the Time Change

If you woke up this morning with candy wrappers in the bin and one overly tired Chase from Paw Patrol — same.

What I’m learning as a mom is that Halloween with little ones is equal parts magic and mayhem — and that the time change this weekend didn’t do any of us any favors. We’re all still feeling it.

The post-Halloween sugar rush is real, and today is for a soft landing. For big cups of coffee (maybe with a sneaky chocolate bar from your child’s stash), and a slow morning that might just involve a movie and the couch.

Here’s to the small things that make it all feel worth it:

  • My son waking up this morning asking to go trick-or-treating again.

  • Family — and chosen family — embracing the chaos together.

  • The way his face lit up when he spotted me at his school parade.

The “-ber” months always give me permission to press pause. To savor the shift. The costumes get packed away, but the joy keeps building — in the stories, the bites, and the slower moments that make life feel so full.

I’m embracing the sugar crash — and I hope you can too.
